This particular bootleg set is one of the gems of my collection - and considering I've got the good part of a spare bedroom filled with knock-off toys, that's really saying something.
Presenting:
Speaking of the box, here's a sample of one of the toys still in package:
The box is about 15" tall, made of fairly sturdy cardboard, and has full color graphics on all sides. There is a die cut opening in the front of the box to show the toy inside.
Other than the "Super S. Heros" logo, there is very little text on the box. There is a "Made in China" on the back, a couple of child-safety warnings (Not for children under 3), and a Battery Operated blurb on the front. The side of the package further defines this with "Use 3 X 1.5V AA Batteries (Not included)."
Oh, and along the bottom back is the tag line:
Now, at this point, you might be asking yourself, "How can I collect them in series if I don't even know who's in the set?" But probably not. I mean, who really makes fun of bootleg packaging like that?
Ok, besides me.
Ok, Joe Medrano.
But that's it.
Anyway, let's move on to the actual toys!
Power Hero, however, doesn't Walk, Talk, and Spin Around!
Flip a switch on Batman's back, and the toy lumbers forward, swishing it's oversized feet back and forth. At random intervals it will cry out:
I know, it sounds hard to believe. I'm working on a video of this toy in action, so I can show you exactly what I'm seeing on this end. |
Other than the Kenner duplications on the arms and head, the rest of Super S. Hero Batman is all new. He is cast in all black plastic, with gold stickers for the belt and chest-symbol.
Batman also has a cloth cape that attaches around his neck, complete with Bat-Fringe. It really adds to the effect when he starts spinning.
It should also be noted that this toy is LOUD as they come. I brought him to the office, and you could hear him down the hall from behind a closed door.
There is also variant Batman that has a removable head...with a asian-featured head underneath. The link will take you to Joe's Site for his review of that puzzler.
The base body is the same as Batman's, with the addition of a screwed on belt buckle (and the Batman robot has the screw holes for this accessory), and new gold stickers around the knees and elbows.
The chest armor is removable, and while it looks neat, really doesn't conform to the body undernath it.
I assume the action features on this toy are identical to the Batman robot, but the waist joint and mechanics of my White Ranger are busted, so I'll have to just guess.
The figure itself is identical to the White Ranger above, except for the head. The color scheme is accurate as far as Supes goes - with red trunks and boots, flesh colored hands, and blue bodysuit.
Supes also comes with a red cape that clips around his neck the same as Batman's.
Superman's motions and sound effects are idential to Batman, but for some reason he's much quieter.
A known variation on this figure is pictured at Joe Medrano's Superman Robot review. The body is actually from another figure entirely....read on....
According to Joe at The Undiscovered Playthings, you should also be aware of a Wolverine Robot, a Masked Rider (the body of which can be seen as the Superman variant above), and an Unnamed Anime 'Bot.
