Small Soldiers - the Movie. Small Soldiers - the "Gremlins" knock off. No matter what you though of the film, you have to admit that there were an AWFUL LOT of toys produced for the youth of the world.

Small Soldier merchandise battled tooth and nail against the cute-n-cuddly insects of "A Bug's Life" for world domination, Christmas of 1998. Neither emerged a clear victor.

As a result of this popularity, Small Soldiers bootlegs were quick to appear in the marketplace.

Behold! Little Soldiers!

These toys come blister carded on single sided backers, distributed by "Toy Galaxy" out of Canada...the same outfit who brought us such winners as Space Combat.

As you can see in the image at left, the "Small Soldiers" logo style has been copied exactly. Sure, "Small" has been swapped out with synonym "Little" but that's not enough to fool anyone.

The artwork on the card is all new, and has a very Jack Kirby feel to it. The "blast pattern" background has been duplicated from Small Soldiers, however.

There are many figures in the set, each coming two to a backer, and armed with a wide variety of weaponry, just the right scale to have been lifted from Battle Beasts or other small figure series.

As seen in the detail below, two of the mini figures match the styling of the major players of Small Soldiers. Namely, Chip Hazzard and Archer.

The figure on the right has Archer's coloration. Tan body, red briefs, brown vest. The head, however, is something out of a nightmare...a mushed horse's head with no real features to lock onto.

These are the only two figures that bear a strong likeness to "Small Soldiers" characters...interesting that they ended up in a set togther. Hmmmm.

Overall, a so-so bootleg. No real innovation and the "Little Soldier" name is too close to "the real thing" to be funny.
