Class of Bootleg Class 3 - Concept Bootleg
Class Notes: I may be waaaaay off on this one.
Bootleg Source: Paramount's Star Trek Captain Picard as Locutus of Borg
Bootleg Rating: StarStarStarStar (Four out of five stars)
Sightings:Singapore
Vintage:Estimated 1997 Vintage

Locutus and Locutus OK, stick with me on this one.

The figures to the left both represent the same character: Locutus of Borg. (For those of you not Trek-Savvy, this is Captain Picard after he has been assimilated by an alien collective known as the Borg - from the episodes The Best of Both Worlds parts I and II. They're a really good couple of episodes. Check them out if you have a couple of free hours!)

The figure on the left is the Playmates toys version of this character...one of their best action figure offerings.

The one on the right....well, he's the BOOTLEG version! The figure is articulated at the shoulders, elbows, knees and hips. The head is glued directly to the body and does not turn.

OK, so they're not from even vaugely the same molds and the color scheme is waaaaay off. But There are a few other tie-ins to Star Trek that should show you why this figure was created while watching the above episodes....

Locutus First, lets take a look at the accessories that "Locutus of Bootleg" comes with. The mace is nothing spectacular...and certainly not Trek related. But let's take a close look at that shield!

Doesn't it look like the underside of a certain famous saucer section? Say....off the Enterprise? While it's not an exact match to any existing Enterprise design, it's hard not to look at it and not think "Starfleet".

Remember - I've got this guy classified as "Class Three" which means no molds were duplicated from existing toy lines. The INTENT to duplicate is all I've got to show.

Still not convinced?

Well, let's move on to the final part of this little exhibit.....the UNMASKING of Locutus of Bootleg!

Locutus Yes! The plastic head-piece comes off!

When removed, it reavals an almost eeeerie likeness of....

Jean-Luc Picard!

(Or maybe Professor X. No, damnit! It's Picard! I'm sure of it!)

(Of course, if you recognize this figure as a Class-Two (or better) from another toy line, please let me know. A MOC version of this figure would also be a great find!)
