Star Zone combines Star Trek vehicles with smiling robots and an odd Pangea / Volcano playset/playmat combo.
There is a choking hazard warning (For ages 4 and up) and the following distribution information:
Each set comes with four black and four white ships. There are more than eight vehicles in the set however, and quite often vehicles are duplicated in the same bag. The complete list of ships is:
Black Vehicles | White Vehicles |
---|---|
Classic Enterprise | USS Reliant |
Enterprise - B / Excelsior | Ferengi Marauder |
Enterprise - D | Klingon Bird of Prey |
Romulan Warbird (1/2 Mold) | Federation Runabout |
Klingon Attack Cruiser | Cardassian Warship |
Classic Klingon Cruiser | Classic Romulan Warbird |
As noted, the black-cast Romulan Warbird only has one half of the mold used for the Galoob ship. Only the top half of the hull has been used, and, as a result, the underside of the ship has been retooled slightly.
Also included in each set are four black and four mustard-yellow toned robots. These figures stand under 1.5" high, and appear to be cast from Robotech Mecha. Each figure has an interesting addition, however. Atop each is a round head with simplistic features (two oval eyes, a triangle nose, and tiny rectangular mouth) that have caused them to be nicknamed the "Easter Island Mecha." There are at least six figures in the set, and each can be found in both colors of plastic.
There is no variation to be found with the playsets and playmats, thankfully.
Each set comes with an identical 1.5’ x 2.5’ flimsy plastic mat that depicts an unpolluted prehistoric scene, complete with exploding volcano and lightning storm on the horizon. The small (5" x 8") plastic base is also prehistoric in appearance, with a lava-dripping volcano. Cast in black plastic, the top surface is entirely covered with red, green, brown and yellow spray operations.
As noted elsewhere, Star Trek bootlegs are a more difficult find than the more popular Star Wars items. This set offers a wide variety of ships from both the classic and current Star Trek series. Overall, not a bad find.
