Star Trek Bootlegs are few and far between. For being such an immensely popular franchise, this seems a bit odd to me. Still, given enough time, I guess they'll bootleg ANYTHING.

The following ships are based (read: copied) from the 1994 Playmates Innerspace line of toys. The Playmates toys are small replicas of Star Trek spaceships that open up into small playsets. Each ship comes with two 1" figures based on Playmates 5" offerings, that sported incedible detail for figures so small.

The Space War Bootlegs copies 8 of the vehicles, the first two waves of Innerspace toys:

The Space War line is approximately 20% larger than the Playmates version. They are based off the same molds for the ships and figures, however.

The packages has the logo text:

Space War

Warship Mini Playset

and the following text in a yellow Starburst:

All Mini Figures Fit in all Mini Playsets!

The back of the package has the following text, reproduced just as it reads:

Space War

8 NEW DESIGN MINI WAR-SHIP PLAYSET FORM THE SPACE PATROL. THEY ALL STANDBY TO FIGHT IN THE SPACE TO PROTECT THE SPACE OF THE WORLD IN PEACE FOREVER.

Quality. Real quality.

Cardassian Warship

Cardassian

The Cardassian ship offers no real suprises. It comes with poorly painted Odo and Gul Dukat figures.

Romulan Warbird

Romulan Warbird

The Warbird has a wealth of interesting features.

Mini Figures

The two figures shown at right, above, come with the Warbird. On the far right is our heroic Captain Jean-Luc, looking a lot more like the Traveler than Patrick Stewart. The figure on his left is "Data as a Romulan". Note the resplendant glossy-black paint on the hands, face, and feet. I have no idea what the bootleggers were thinking when they decided on how to decorate Data.

But the best is yet to come! Under the lid of the ship is a picture of the threat facing the Warbird.....

Star Destoyer

....An IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER!!!!!!

U.S.S. Hood

Hood

The U.S.S. Hood may also have cool stickers, but it is packaged so that none of the internal detail shows. There are at least two version of paint jobs on the ship as well. The ship above has blue lines painted on the hull, the version below lacks them.

Hood

The Hood comes with a Blonde Riker and a Caucasian Geordi LaForge.

Klingon Bird of Prey

Bird of Prey

The Klingon Bird of Prey comes with A Gowron and Worf, both with caucasian skin tones - and really lack-luster detailing. (See them on the right side of the figure photo above).

The viewscreen on the Bird of Prey offers another suprise....

Falcon Cockpit

....the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon!!!!!!

Shuttlecraft Goddard

Shuttle

A very close reproduction to Playmate's version. It comes with a Green-shirted Deanna Troi mini (no articulation!) and a Caucasian Geordi.

Ferengi Marauder

Ferengi Marauder

Like the Romulan Warbird, the Marauder has a picture of a Star Destroyer on the main view-screen. It is otherwise unremarkable.

The Marauder comes with a Picard and Ferengi figure.

Overall, this is a pretty interesting line of Bootlegs. The juxaposition of the Star Wars stickers on the Star Trek vehicles is a real hoot. I would really like to find some Bootlegs of the five inch figures, but from what I can tell, they just don't exist. (I bet Playmates is happy about it, though!!)
