Galaxy Empire Logo Like the Galaxy Cops Bootlegs, the continued success of the Star Wars Franchise has spawned another line of bootlegs. The 'Leggers again concentrated on the Kenner POTF2 line, but this time they didn't stop with just a Vader and Stormtrooper. This time, they went for 7 figures - this time cast at the 6" scale! (See size comparison below)

Galaxy Empire Scale and card

As seen in the photo above, the Galaxy Empire line features some interesting card art. The Millennium Falcon flies away from a Star Destroyer, while green turbo-laser beams flash nearby. (Nothing at all like the Star Wars line. Nuh-uh. No way. ) The back of the card is plain cardboard.

Each of the figures in this line come on the same backboard and all have the same assortment number. Each figure comes with at least one accessory-weapon, but not necessarily the ones that came with the Kenner version. All the figures are articulated at the same points as their real counterparts: neck, shoulders, waist, and hips. The detailing on the figures is of generally high quality. The color-schemes might be off, but they have almost as much detail as the Kenner versions.

Discovered so far in this line are:

  • Boba Fett
  • Luke Skywalker
  • Chewbacca
  • Stormtrooper
  • Chewbacca in Bounty Hunter Disguise
  • Darth Vader
  • Han Solo

Boba Fett

Boba Fett Figure
Fett is my favorite from this line. He comes with the rocket-backpack used in the Kenner version, but lacks the cape/wookie-scalp accessory. He is cast in grey with metalic paint highlights. Note the helmet - the normally black visor area has been painted silver!
In addition to the Rocketpack, Fett comes with a "Standard-Issue" stormtrooper rifle as a weapon.

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker Figure
Next up, we have the Luke Skywalker bootleg. Cast from the mold of the Kenner "Luke in Tatooine Outfit" figure, the bootleg has been given a black tunic and leggings. The boots are painted a tan color. The resulting figure looks like a cross between the Tatooine Luke and the Jedi-Knight Luke. The face is pretty close to the Kenner version - meaning it looks nothing at all like Mark Hamill. For an accessory, Luke comes with the heavy blaster-rifle that first came with the Kenner Chewbacca figure.

Chewbacca as Bounty Hunter

Chewbacca Figure
This one's a puzzlement. We know that the bootleggers had access to the standard Chewie figure as evidenced by the weapon that their Luke has. (And it's not as if they couldn't locate one!) But, for some reason, they decided to go with the Shadows of the Empire incarnation of Chewbacca. Also, they opted not to cast the figure in the standard brown hue, but decided on making him in grey! The figure is painted with silver, purple and green highlights giving a punkish appearance to the figure. Chewie comes with a heavy blaster-pistol first seen with Dash Rendar.

Darth Vader

Darth Vader Figure
I went for the close-up on this figure. Cast from the Kenner mold, the shape of the figure offers no suprises. But, moving beyond the shape, we have to notice that the figure is cast in BROWN plastic! With gold highlights on the shoulder-pads! And white pupils!

Darth comes with the Kenner cape (molded in Brown) and a lightsaber cast in solid red with a black handle.

Han Solo

Han Solo Figure
Next, we come to Han Solo. Made from Kenner's first mold, Han has the standard POTF2 "Help me! Hand Support Required!" pose. He wears a white shirt (note the lack of paint in the exposed chest area!), a Brown vest, blue pants and black boots. Han comes with a Stormtrooper rifle just like Fett's.

Chewbacca

Chewbacca (the "standard" version) has been found cast in grey plastic like the Bounty Hunter version. He comes with his blaster rifle.

Stormtrooper

The Stormtrooper is cast in white plastic with blue trim. He comes with the blaster rifle accessory.

I've had an unconfimed report that this figure has also shown up cast in red plastic. No photos yet, though.

In terms of Quality, this line beats the Tar out of the Galaxy Cop line. The figures have a lot more detail, better articulation, and more play-value. In terms of originality, they fall short of Galaxy Cops....the packaging is less inventive (I still love the GC double-cockpit Falcon!) and the figures are a bit too close to their Kenner counterparts. Overall, this line is going to be a keeper, though!
