Class of Bootleg Class 3 - Concept Bootleg
Class Notes: The display-card for these was pure Star Wars Concept - I wish I had been able to get it!
Bootleg Source: Star Wars Figures and Likenesses
Bootleg Rating: StarStarStar (Three out of five stars)
Sightings:Arkansas (TRU Gumball Machine!)
Vintage:December 31, 1997

Luke and R2 These little figurines were obtained from a gumball-machine at a Toys-R-Us in Little Rock, Arkansas. The sign on the front of the machine identified them as "Space Warriors"....and as soon as I saw the lightsaber-weilding hero, I knew I was looking at a Class 3 - Concept Star Wars Bootleg.

I only had two quarters on me at the time, and I was lucky enough to get two mini-figures easily recognized as Star Wars Knock-offs....Luke and R2. I believe there was a Vader-lookalike, as well as a generic hero that might have been Han Solo.

The card art in the machine was also heavy with Star Wars-ish imagery, but without it in front of me, I hesitate to list anything specific.

Checkt the TRUs in your area! If anyone can get me the rest of this set (in trade or otherwise), I'd be most grateful!

Now for a closer look at the two I did get....

Luke Detail

Luke Skywalker-ish Figure

This first figure looks a lot like Luke Skywalker to me. He has a green lightsaber, and appears to be dressed in Luke's Hoth outfit.

He stands just under 1" tall, and is made of a very soft rubber. His sword is a bit bent from being stored in the capsule from the machine (shown at right).

There appeared to be plenty of Lukes in the machine, making him a fairly common Star Warrior.

R2-D2-ish Figure

Although the figure itself isn't very close to R2-D2, the coloration on him is very close to the Star Wars character. The general shape of the droid is reminicent of the R2 series, though.

I've placed him next to a Star Trek "Strike Force" Data for scale comparison. R2 stands just under a half inch tall.

R2 came in a completely different style of container from the Luke, possibly because he's a much smaller figure.
