Yes, you're reading the card art (at left) correctly....that's not Superman, that's
Note, of course, that the logo has been done in the classic Superman 3-D text, although apparently hand lettered. (Note the oversized "E", for example)
The card is printed on the front only, and has some text along the bottom of the card:
Blister carded to the right of the package is Specialman himself, a very strange mixture of elements.
Specialman stands about 6" tall, and comes from a variety of sources.
At right, we have the head of this figure - taken from Kenner's Superman: Man of Steel line. The head is a bit too tiny for the body, designed more for a 4" figure. The neck is also way to long for the torso, considering that the torso also has a neck carved on it.
Losely draped over the figure's shoulders is a red plastic cape, also from Kenner's Superman line.
The legs of this figure are also Superman's, as evidenced by the correct boots. The legs are properly scaled to the rest of the body.
The arms and torso, however, are pure ToyBiz knockoffs. Last seen in the classic X-Team line, Iceman's mold makes a return engagement.
It would have been difficult to establish the lineage of Specialman's body...except that the bootlegger's left the X-Insignia belt buckle intact. (See image at left)
The color scheme of the figure is correct - although the S-Shield looks to have been painted freehand with an air-brush. There are some nice touches, however, like the small red stripes on the belt to suggest belt-loops.
Overall, a pretty wack attempt at cashing in on character recognition...but you can't look at this figure without thinking..."Well, isn't that Special" (Click for Sound File)
