Batman in Package At left is what appears to be a legit Kenner Total Justice figure - but it's not. It's a loathesome bootleg, and I'll tell you how I know.

For starters, there's no copyright information anywhere on the package.

Second, the card itself is light and fragle.

Third, the bubble that holds the figure to the card is about as flimsy as spun sugar.

And, finally, the toys look like crap!!!

The Total Justice line has been a very popular one for bootleggers, considering that it has representations of all of the most recognizable DC comic characters. This particular bootleg set may contain as many as fourteen figures - and there have been confirmed sightings of at least six.

Back of Packaging Known to exist are: Superman, Fractal Armor Batman, Despero, Robin, Green Lantern, and 1st Batman. Three are reviewed here, the balance can been seen at The Undiscovered Playthings. (And, since six figures is the "standard" bootleg assortment, that may be it for this particular set. But the other characters have indeed been bootlegged elsewhere. For example, they have shown up in the Hall of Fame set.)

At right is the backboard common to all figures in this set. It's a fairly un-modified Superman backboard. Most of the Class-One Total Justice bootlegs seem to use a single character backer, as opposed to creating a collage backer with info about all figures in the series.

The white strip along the bottom of the card is new, however, and nicely covers all of the Kenner copyright information that was there previously.

Let's take a closer look at three of the figures in this set.

Detail of Batman Figure
Batman

First up is Fractal armor Batman. Overall, not that bad an attempt. The accessories are there, although now in a garish red shade, and the bootleggers at least attempted to follow the paint operations of the Kenner original.

But if you take a closer look at the paint, you can tell they really couldn't be bothered to make the figures look nice.

Below is a close-up of the bat-symbol from the figure's chest. Notice how it looks like it's been applied twice - and not lined up very well. And let you think that double image was caused by an unsteady hand at the digital camera - take a look at the "TJ" logo on the figure's shoulder. While sloppy as well, it's a lot neater than the bat.

Despero
Despero

Despero made the transition to bootleg in better shape than most of the figures in this set. Sure, his weapons have been cast in bright red plastic, and he's way to big for the small bubble they crammed him into, but the painting is good, and he still looks very tough.

Superman
Superman

Finally we come to Superman. Well, the figure that's supposed to be Superman, anyway.

If you thought the painting on Batman was bad, well, the bootlegger's really let the chimps loose on this one. Take a look at the closeup of the chest below. Can anyone say "finger painting?" I knew you could.
