On Card

OK, here's a frightening one! Teletubbies are a popular British Children's show that is enjoying a huge sweep of popularity in the USA, thanks to its run on PBS.

There are lots and lots of legit Teletubbies toys out there....and now there are knock offs as well.

Here come the Bubbly Chubbies. Little creatures that resemble the Teletubbies just enough to get included here at the Island.

As seen at right, this Bubbly Chubbies bootleg has three figures for your collecting dollar. Well, figures may be too strong a word. How about "Three Non-Articulated Pieces of Plastic."

There are three "action ready" lumps of plasticine in this set...a red one, a blue one, and a purple one.

PO Detail

Um, so what else can I say about these. They look a LOT like the Teletubbies, don't they?

There are eight different packs, some of which include the fourth Teletubbie color- Yellow. For more photos of this line, link over to Qqalzzot's Page O'Bootleg Toys. He has a scan of each of the packs.

The Bubbly Chubbies line was created for Wal-Mart, who often stock these little monsters right NEXT to the higher-priced Teletubbies merchandise. On 3/22/99 they got taken to court over this. Full details at The Wal-Mart vs. Teletubbies section.
