Class of Bootleg Class 2 - Duplicated and Modified
Class Notes: New title and logo, original package art, paint scheme changes
Bootleg Source: ToyBiz X-Men figures
Bootleg Rating: StarStarStarStar (Four out of five stars)
Sightings: Mexico
Vintage:Spring 1997

The first series of Space Team that I aquired was based off of the Iron Man figures from Toybiz. The second series of Space team is based on a different ToyBiz property.

Boot Logo

As you can see, the main character protrayed on the backboard is Wolverine of the X-Men. What you might not know is that the art shown here is almost identical to the card design used by ToyBiz.

Real Logo

As you can see, the similarities are....srtiking. The replacement of the logo is the obvious major change. Note, too, the absence of the Marvel Comics logos and other copyright information. The blister shares the same embossed-X design as it's legal counterpart as well. Overall, the packaging design is almost identical!

There areseveral figures in the Space Team 2 assortment. The only figure I currently have is Cyclops.

Cyclops

The figure is cast from the same mold as the 1st edition cyclops figure. The paint scheme is a bit wacky...a mixture of the standard blue outfit and X-Factor garb, but with yellow hightlights instead of white. The mask is no longer blue, but is now bright red. The accessories all come from different ToyBiz figures...only the missle-launcher is from Cyclops's original gear - and it's been repainted.

Overall this is an interesting little bootleg. The Space Team logo is nicely matted into the existing artwork, the figure itself seems pretty solid, and the variety of accessories is a nice touch.
