New Set Reviews on Flickr

While you're waiting for today's comic, take a bit and explore some of the new 2010 sets I found at Toys R Us in Troy, Michigan today. I've taken a bunch of photos and posted them out to my Flickr photostream.

Also of note, they were handing out LEGO Santa Mini-fig keychains with a $5 off $20 LEGO purchase coupons at the check out lanes. Don't know if that's a chain-wide promotion or not. The coupons expire on 11/21/09.

Click on the photos to be taken to the photo sets.

Am I alone in thinking that LEGO has really changed for the worse?

The only sets in this post that somehow impressed me, were the Atlantis ones.
I mean, a safe filled with banknotes hanging on the crane of a spaceship is one thing, but what's the use of having a flamethrower ready to fight Rock Monsters with?! If only it was frog princes they were fighting...

IMO most of what you showed us today are bad redoes of things that looked ever so much better in the past.
*sighs*
*goes looking for them good old Rock Raiders*

@Martijn:

Actually that's a water cannon aimed at lava monsters....

I wasn't overly impressed with the builds on the space police sets either, but the Power Miner truck isn't bad, and the Atlantis stuff is really quite nice.

Also remember: All these sets are on the cheap side of the spectrum. The biggest (the Red Atalantis ship) was only $25 - making it mid-range for LEGO. When you compare the rest to a CITY police car or small truck...they hold up pretty well.

I like all these sets, and even more seeing those prices.

I'm going to HAVE to get a couple of the shark-head guys. Those are seriously awesome.

Woo! new sets, lucky you. I'm gonna have to wait for a bit to get some of these, sadly.

The key chain must be a chain wide promotion. I went into Toys R Us last night looking for the City Advent calender and they gave me one.

@ Chris: my bad, after a closer look, I have to admit you're right. About the water cannon truck.

why would LEGO release these sets right after the holidays?
Why not release them now when kids are whining to their parents to buy them stuff for Christmas?
Also, how is it that these sets where available at toys R us but not on LEGO's own website?

@anon:

Toys R Us has a deal with LEGO to release sets early as a retailer exclusive. Their idea is to bring LEGO fans into TRU...where they hope they'll buy more than just the LEGO sets (and at the TRU markup on new sets, too.)

Atlantis is supposed to launch "officially" on 11/24 - it might hit other retailers then.

Toys R Us were selling the santa key chains in Australia for one cent each. They didn't come with a gift voucher.

I think it must have been part of a gift with purchase promotion that wasn't properly advertised.
